Maker Education Workshops [Past Workshops]
Overview of workshops
1. “Introduction to Maker Education” Workshop (13 OR 15 Mar 2017) provides educators with an understanding of what Maker Education can look like in schools, and how it can contribute to developing 21st Century Competencies. Participants will also gain concrete ideas for how to implement and facilitate this approach in their classrooms, as a significant part of the workshop is also focused on curriculum design and integration, as well as the planning and implementation of a makerspace.
2. “Maker Ed’s Open Portfolio” Workshop (14 OR 16 Mar 2017) will provide educators with the opportunity to explore and practice techniques for capturing student learning through portfolios. This hands-on workshop will guide participants to explore possible platforms and think through approaches to implementation. The workshop will help practitioners consider portfolios not just for Maker Education, but also for a wide variety of purposes, including alternative assessment, student self-reflection and admissions.
Workshop Facilitator
The workshops will be facilitated by Stephanie Chang, Director of Programmes at Maker Ed (http://makered.org/), a US-based non-profit organization that provides educators and institutions with the training, resources, and community of support they need to create engaging, inclusive, and motivating learning experiences through maker education.
As Director of Programmes, Stephanie is responsible for overseeing Maker Ed’s programme and project offerings, including Maker Corps, Maker VISTA, Young Makers, the Open Portfolio Project, and the online Resource Library. As part of her role, she has worked closely with fifteen northern California schools to define and develop makerspaces and making programs in schools.

Design Thinking Workshops [Past Workshops]
Overview of workshops
1. The Design Thinking Introductory Workshop (13 Mar 2017) is a high-energy, experiential, one-day session that introduces the design thinking process. Participants will work in small teams to solve a custom designed challenge. Theworkshop is built upon learning by doing, and participants learn the phases of the design thinking process as they tackle the challenge.
2. The Design Thinking Application Workshop (14 Mar 2017) will allow participants to apply the design thinking process to specific goals such as curriculum integration, leadership development, mindset development, assessment and professional development (Participants must have attended the Design Thinking Introductory Workshop on 13 March 2017).
3. “The Art and Skill of Facilitating Design Thinking” Workshop (15-16 Mar 2017) is a two-day workshop that equips participants with a deeper understanding of the design thinking process, and practical skills and tips on how to prepare materials, design spaces, and plan agendas. Through modelling, practice and mentoring, they will learn how to deliver a compelling, engaging, organized, and informative workshop.
Workshop Facilitator
The workshops will be facilitated by Dr Maureen Carroll, lecturer at Stanford University’s Hasso Plattner Institute of Design(d.school), and director of Stanford University’s REDlab which conducts research at the intersection of design thinking and learning. Dr Carroll facilitated two design thinking workshops earlier in 2016 which were very well-received and over-subscribed.
